The face undergoes characteristic changes as we age, predominantly influenced by gravity, sun exposure, facial muscle activity, soft tissue maturation, loss of muscle mass and decrease and descent of facial fat and interaction of the skin and soft tissues with a changing skeletal structure.
Most people assess these changes, consciously or subconsciously, when estimating someone’s age.
Wrinkles, in the forehead, in between the eyebrows, ‘crow’s feet’ around the eyes, deep grooves and furrows around the mouth. Other changes can include excess skin and fat pads around the eyelids, jowling around the jaw line, loose skin and fat around the neck and under the chin.
All these changes can be treated using various modalities, including lasers, botulinum toxins (botox), fillers or various types, and a wide range of cosmetic surgical procedures.
